Hospice Biller – Job Description

Overview:
The Hospice Biller is responsible for accurate and timely preparation, submission, and follow-up of hospice claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies. This role ensures compliance with billing regulations while supporting the financial health of the hospice organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and submit electronic and paper claims for hospice services.

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and coverage.

  • Reconcile remittance advice and resolve denied or rejected claims.

  • Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on unpaid claims, and manage collections.

  • Ensure compliance with CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) billing requirements.

  • Maintain patient billing records in the EMR and billing systems.

  • Communicate with insurance carriers, patients, and families regarding billing issues.

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve documentation discrepancies.

  • Generate financial and billing reports as requested by management.
     

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred).
  • 2+ years of medical billing experience, preferably in hospice or home health.
  • Knowledge of hospice billing regulations, Medicare/Medicaid guidelines, and HIPAA compliance.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency with billing software, EMR systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. (HomeCare/HomeBase)
